SCANIA New Zealand South Pacific Diesel Systems

> Roaring Start to the 21's Century

Today SCANIA is one of the world's leading manufactures of trucks and buses for heavy transport and of industrial marine engines. The company has 28,300 employee's with production in Europe and Latin America. The products are sold in more that 100 different markets.

Scania Industrial & Marine Engines started its new century with a roar by unveiling an entirely new engine, the most powerful to date: a 16 litre V8 that is water-cooled, has double turbo-chargers, electronic fuel injection, and a newly developed engine control system. It delivers up to 800 HP for commercial vessels - compared to a maximum of 4 to 24 HP a century ago.

The marine 16 litre engine was presented for the first time to the general public at the London Boat Show at the beginning of January 2002. It uses Scania's modular concept and is based on the 16 litre truck engine. It complies without any problems to the current environmental requirements for emissions and discharge from ship's engines and will have no difficulty in meeting tomorrow's requirements.

There is much interest in Scania's new marine engine all over the world. The Swedish Navy are very curious about it, pleasure boat manufactures are sending in inquiries, the English harbour pilots have shown much interest - the list is long. It is quite clear that Scania has a good reputation as an engine manufacturer and with 100 yeas of experience, the future can only be bright.
